Internet Software Merchants Live Or Die By Their Software Merchant Accounts

Let me tell you why software merchant accounts are so valuable and what you can do to protect them from termination.

Downloadable software over the Internet can be extremely profitable.

Internet software merchants spend most of their money on marketing, upgrades and customer service. They have set up their product to be completely automated for the consumer.

A basic purchase consists of the cardholder selecting the software product from the merchant, downloading it and paying for it right over the net. As long as the merchant website can accommodate traffic, there is no limit as to who or how many customers can purchase software. Of course software merchant accounts are essential.

However, there are a few things to watch out for with regards to merchant accounts and keeping your own merchant account safe from charge backs and termination.

1.Always refund a customer when the customer requests it. If you don’t, they will charge it back anyway and you will lose the dispute per MasterCard and Visa rules. Remember the Cardholder has the right to charge back a sale over the Internet 6 months after the service has been delivered. Don’t accumulate black marks on your merchant account record as they pertain to charge backs.

2. If you are getting over 10% returns or requests for money back, then consider changing your software package or e-book sold. It’s obviously not being perceived as valuable for whatever you are charging. If you are charging too much for what the cardholder receives, then you also have an example of unfair exchange. This leads to more refunds.

3. Use Address Verification Systems (AVS) to ensure that the card is good.

4. Make your contact information, phone number and email easily seen so that a customer can get a refund without a hassle. Otherwise, you will not get a chance to return the money before the charge back process starts.

Too many Charge backs in a month (Over 2%) will get your account “On watch” or terminated. Please ensure you take my expert advice. I‘ve seen the worse case scenarios and I don’t want you to be the next merchant to experience it.
